The main house features a gable roof, while the detached building has a simple single-sloped roof.
To cope with the intense heat characteristic of this region, both the eaves and gable overhangs were extended to 1290 mm.
Reborn garden stones
The granite paving stones used for the approach and garden are repurposed materials that were once used on this land.
Thanks to the gardener’s creativity and craftsmanship, they will continue to be passed down in a new form.

Wooden fence that also serves as a dog run encloses the inner garden.
Hinoki wood is used to create a sense of unity with the architecture, and the structure is kept simple to ensure easy maintenance.
Connection to the wooden deck
A wooden deck of approximately 25 square meters (about 15 tatami mats) was created to connect the main house and the detached building.
At its center,
a 1-meter-diameter planter was custom-built to introduce a gentle spatial buffer between the two dwellings through planted greenery.
The planter contains a pine tree reminiscent of the bonsai once enjoyed by the grandparents who lived on this land,
with succulents planted at its base.
This seemingly contrasting combination brings about a unique and comforting harmony.
Rainwater falling from the deep eaves is guided into a stone water basin, hand-carved by a skilled artisan.

The ceiling follows the slope of the roof (with a gradient of 1.85/10).
A transom window is installed above the interior wall, aligned with the opening height (FL +1900),
creating a structure that allows the continuity of space and the simplicity of the roof form to be experienced from within.
The best seat by the window
By fully opening the three sliding doors that connect to the wooden deck, the layered depth of the LDK expands even further.
On sunny days, the living chairs can be moved outside, allowing for a garden living experience that connects with the detached house.
The way the family dog has already taken a liking to this spot clearly shows that it’s the best seat in the house.
